Twisted Lies by Ana Huang - Book review
I have reached the end of the twisted series with the last one "Twisted Lies" by Ana Huang. It's got a fake dating cliche followed by Stella Alonso and Christian Harper with a lot of twists that had me hooked from the beginning. The main characters are so lovable that it’s hard not to smile while reading about them. Twisted Lies is a long, slow-burn, spicy, and little dark romance. I would have loved it more if the book was short.
Stella is a social media influencer and a blogger and she works for a fashion magazine as her day job. Stella was a mystery in all the previous books. So it was very interesting to get to know her now.
Christian is the billionaire CEO of Harper Security and cyber security expert. We first met Christian in twisted games as he was Rhys's boss and then in twisted hate, he let Stella and Jules move into his fancy apartment with the lower rent and he helps Jules with an issue she was facing with. This book made me say I loved Christian.
And in Twisted Lies, as mentioned earlier Stella is an influencer and she badly want to be an ambassador for an high end brand, she thinks of dating someone which could boost her followers attention. Later, Christian and Stella begin fake dating for both of their benefits. Christian agreed to Stella's agreement as he could use his fake date to all the functions he attends so people stop trying to set him up or trying to get with him themselves.
This fake dating deal took a serious turn when a stalker from Stella's past re-appears and begin to harras her again, so Christian asked Stella to move in with him until he finds the stalker. Just because Stella is traumatized and scared of the stalker guy, she agreed to move in with Christian.
Later in the book, Stella had to go to Hawaii for her photoshoot and Christian couldn't let her travel alone because she was in danger as the stalker is still there, so he accompanied her. By the end of the trip, Stella and Christian ended up dating eachother for real. Once they returned from Hawaii, they both started to live together, while Christian goes home early from his work everyday just to spend time with Stella. It was really nice to see their love grow more and more.
I love how Stella changed Christian to the man who believes in love and has a soft corner just for one girl. But on one fine day, as Stella was cleaning the home, she thought of cleaning Christian's office whose door always remained closed and Stella used to enter only to water the plants. So, Stella thought it was okay for her to enter the room and clean. She come across a file in a drawer with the file name as Stella Alonso where she sees every detail of her life piled up. That made Stella terrible and think Christian is the real stalker.
Before Christian came back home, she packed her bags with her unicorn toy and left to Ava's home.
It had been months with their breakup and Christian wrote letters to Stella about his life, where he believed that she could come back to him someday. That was something so unexpected about him. It also shows how someone can change when it comes to someone who is important to you.
There were so many things going on at the same time. It made me confused at some point, stalker, the company issues. I really enjoyed Christian and Stella fall in love. I am sad that I am done with this series. And let me tell you, the slow burn between them had me on edge the whole time.
I really loved Stella's character in this book. She's independent, ambitious, and grew strong by the end of the book and realized a lot as an adult. The spice level was good, but not quite as great as in Twisted Games (which is still my favourite book in the series). Even though the twist is messed up at the end of the book, I was able to ignore it most of the time.
The end is my favourite part. I absolutely loved seeing all four friends (Ava, Bridget, Jules and Stella) and their partners with their kids.
Favourite quotes from the book:
Nothing good ever came from allowing other people control over my emotions.
Words have the power to heal or destroy, depending on how they are weaved into the tapestry of deceit.
Behind every twisted lie lurks a broken truth, waiting impatiently to be discovered.
The air finally lightened, and the knot in my chest loosened a smidge.
Adult friendships took work and conscious effort to maintain, but the ones that stayed were the ones that mattered most.
People make their own choices. You have the right to live your life how you want without worrying about creeps who can’t curb their worst impulses.
It's okay to feel sad. I promise I won't tell anyone.
Sometimes, sacrifices are necessary for happiness.
Everyone deserved to experience true love at least once in their lifetime.
